What will I see?
Explore the religious center of Florence in an exciting and engaging way with this guided tour of the Piazza del Duomo. Visit a real Renaissance workshop before discovering the treasures of the world-famous Baptistery and Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral.
What will I do?
Our tour begins with a fascinating video presentation in the ancient rectory beside the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, which explains how the development of the Duomo complex over the centuries led Florence to blossom into the 'Cradle of the Renaissance'.
Next, we'll visit an area in the Duomo complex where time stands still. A knowledgeable Opera del Duomo guide will lead you to a workshop where some of the great Renaissance artists created their masterpieces. This is where Michelangelo's David took form, carved over just three years from a single block of marble, and it's where stonemasons still apply their passion and skills to restore original masterpieces using age-old tools and time-tested techniques.
We'll continue our walk and explore the amazing artworks on display at the Baptistery and the Duomo itself. The octagonal Baptistery is one of the very oldest buildings in Florence, and many of the monuments on display were restored in the stonemason's workshop. Just beside Piazza del Duomo, we'll complete the tour with wine and cheese. Your ticket to the Duomo Complex is valid for two days, so you can continue the tour at your own leisure, exploring Brunelleschi's Dome – the highest and widest cathedral dome build in the period – St. Reparata's Crypt, the Giotto's bell tower, and many other remarkable monuments.
