What will I do?
The day will begin with a visit to the magnificent Gothic Loggia del Bigallo, overlooking the Piazza Duomo in the heart of the historic town. Here we'll begin our discovery of the amazing buildings and monuments that characterize the religious center of Florence. The beautiful Duomo dominates the Piazza, and its striking Brunelleschi dome is a fantastic way to begin the day. Higher and wider than any cathedral dome built in the 15th century, it really leaves a lasting impression. Continuing around the Piazza, we will visit the octagonal Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest buildings in the entire city, before arriving at the imposing Giotto bell tower. These incredible sights are amongst the most beautiful in Italy, and they are landmarks known the world over. Our walk then continues down the vibrant Via dei Calzaioli, where you will experience the bustling culture of old Florence and admire the beautiful Orsanmichele Church, which is a fine example of the Florentine Gothic art complete with decorated shrines and statues of patron saints.
From here we reach the lively Mercato della Paglia, the straw market, which offers you the opportunity to rub the nose of the bronze boar and throw a coin into the fountain for good luck. From here you will see the romantic Ponte Vecchio, a famous medieval bridge that hosts an array of jewelry shops. Next, we arrive at Piazza Signoria, one of the most beautiful squares in the world and the political heart of the city. In this spectacular outdoor museum, you will be amazed by the imposing statue of Ammannati and the striking Fountain of Neptune. You will also savor the sight of sculptural masterpieces such as the Loggia Dei Lanzi, Gianbologna's Rape of the Sabines and Cellini's Perseus with the Head of Medusa. Here, you will also admire the magnificence of the dominating Palazzo Vecchio town hall with its crenelated Arnolfo Tower.
Our tour finishes at the open gallery of the Palazzo degli Uffizi, a famous art museum that hosts a wide variety of artistic pieces from popular artists. It is one of the most famous galleries in the world, It hosts numerous works of art by Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raffaello, Cimabue and Masaccio, amongst many other Renaissance masters.
