What will I see?
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Florence's center boasts a rich culture, with art and architecture from the time of the Medici family dynasty. Any fans of medieval and Renaissance history will love exploring the legacy of this influential period.
What will I do?
This tour will take your through an area with one of the highest concentrations in the world of beautiful Italian monuments and open-air works of art. Led by an experienced and engaging tour guide, you'll discover the most enchanting sights of Florence and learn all about the intriguing history of the Medici dynasty. The dynasty was a powerful family whose influence in Florence – from the 15th to the 18th centuries – made them by some estimates the wealthiest family in Europe at a time. Their contribution to the foundations of the Renaissance cannot be denied.
On this tour you will hear stories of the power struggles, intrigue, betrayals, and secrets that plagued the Medici family as they grew from banking family to royal house. Furthermore, you'll get an insight into the incredible cultural heritage they left to the city of Florence and the world at large. By exploring the monuments and palaces, and walking the same streets and squares that the Medici family once walked, you'll learn about how they exercised their political and economic power over the city.
Palazzo Medici Riccardi was the first home for the San Lorenzo district, where you can still see the church and the Medici chapels. A stone throw from there, you will reach the spectacular Duomo with its magnificent Brunelleschis Dome and the striking Palazzo Vecchio, their second residence that dominates the stunning Piazza della Signoria. As we follow the path of the Vasari Corridor, you will see the elegant elevated passageway that connects the riverbanks of Arno, which passes along the iconic Ponte Vecchio bridge and the houses that cross it.
Further along, you will see the Santa Felicita Church. Here, a secret passageway was used by the dukes of the Medici family to travel between their third residence, Palazzo Pitti, and their offices located inside the Palazzo Vecchio without being seen by the citizens. The enchanting Pitti Palace, the final Florentine residence of the dynasty, hides the majestic Boboli Gardens, and it is our last destination in this marvellous journey into the history and art of a truly unique city.
After the walking tour, enrich your experience with the entrance ticket to the gourgeous Boboli Gardens, a stunning example of "Italian style" gardens.
With your ticket you will be able to visit on your own, also the Porcelain Museum and the wonderful Bardini Gardens.
