What will I do?
Our tour of the Accademia introduces you to the magnificent works of Michelangelo. From his assortment of meticulously displayed half-finished slaves (The Awakening, Young, and Bearded Slaves and Atlas) to a close-up view of his world renown David.
Entering Michelangelo's Hall of the Prisoners you'll pass the corridor juxtaposed with slave statutes that lead you to a circular skylight tribune displaying Michelangelo's breathtaking masterpiece: David. The hand-carved marble statue depicts a nude young man at his physical peak, with an intense expression of strength and courage, originating from an unshakable faith in God, became a noble symbol of the power and invincibility of the Florentine Republic in its glory days. The Accademia also houses the collections of Bronzino, Cecchino Salviati, Allori, Perugino and Ghirlandaio.
In the afternoon then, you will visit the Uffizi. Glance up at the astonishing narrowed Renaissance frescoed ceilings that expand down the halls. A labyrinth of rooms displays the colossal Medici collection, from Botticelli's "Primavera" and "Birth of Venus" to Cimabue's Maestà of Santa Trinita and Da Vinci's Annunciation. You'll be mesmerized by the Gothic paintings of Giotto and Cimabue.
Our guided tour ends at the Uffizi's terrace. Feel free to roam the gallery or have lunch at the café while enjoying a bird's eye view of Florence.
